IMCO-Peer Review

The Problem

The radiology quality procedures and accreditation from the ACR require all sites to participate in a physician peer review program performing the following functions:

Double reading (2 MDs interpreting the same study) assessment
Random selection of studies to be reviewed on a regularly scheduled basis
Selection of exams representative of the specialty of each physician
A classification of peer review findings with regard to level of quality concerns
ED discrepancy (up to 100%), escalations, recordings, final dispositions

Most hospitals today are attempting to meet these requirements using manual techniques. Radiology personnel are manually reviewing reports, organizing over-read procedures and preparing documentation on an on-going basis. The IMCO Solution

IMCO-Peer Review software randomly selects exams to be reread by qualified staff. This selection process is highly flexible, allowing organizations to choose the percentage of qualified exams to be randomly read. It allows you to assign them to a pool of radiologists or to specific individuals. This process presents only the right number and type of reports to read. If a discrepancy is found, the system quickly collects the needed data regarding what is wrong and records it. Depending on the rules of the organization, any discrepancy can be escalated for investigation and final disposition. The entire process is streamlined and tailored to your needs.

IMCO-Peer Review allows for up to 100% over-read of exams, for ED physicians, interns, and for ad-hoc over-reads when a radiologist notices a discrepancy in the regular course of their work.

IMCO-Peer Review is unique in its ability to assign cases for re-interpretation by matching the procedure performed to a particular group of subspecialty radiologists. In addition, this application allows the radiologist to identify technical, protocol, and communication issues within the department, and to bring these to the attention of the QA officer.

The QA officer can provide feedback to all parties involved, to "close the QA loop".
